What If Your Doctor Actually Felt Like a Friend? Why this DPC clinic Is Different

July 30th is International Friendship Day, which got me thinking about what that truly means, not in a greeting card sort of way but in a real, day-to-day way.

You know that person in your life who just gets it? You don't have to catch them up every time you talk. They remember the stuff that matters to you. They tell you the truth even when it's uncomfortable. You never feel like a burden reaching out to them. There's no performance involved. You just show up as you are, and they are happy that you’re there?

That's what I want to be for my patients. And honestly, I think a lot of providers want that too. The traditional system just makes it nearly impossible.

Most people have stopped expecting their doctor to feel like someone who genuinely knows them. Appointments are rushed, questions go half-answered, and the relationship, if you can call it that, resets every single visit. None of that sits right with me. This is not the way I want to take care of my patients. This is why I created Alpine Wellness as Bend, Oregon’s premier Direct Primary Care clinic.

Why traditional healthcare is structured to make real relationships so hard

This isn't a complaint about doctors. Most providers I know genuinely care about the people they see. But when your structure gives you fifteen minutes per patient, a full waiting room, and documentation that follows you home at night, something has to give. What usually gives is the relationship.

You end up with appointments that feel rushed before they even start. A provider clicking through a screen while you're talking. Lab results that land in a portal with no explanation attached. A front desk line that puts you on hold for twenty minutes over a question that would take thirty seconds to answer.

None of that is personal. It's structural. But it still leaves patients feeling like a number, and that's something I wasn't willing to accept when I opened Alpine Wellness.

So let’s chat about Direct Primary Care, what it is and how it works.

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based model of primary care. Instead of billing insurance for every visit, patients pay a flat monthly fee, typically between $100 - $300 depending on the clinic. In return they get direct, ongoing access to their provider.

At Alpine Wellness that often means same-day appointments, a direct line to reach me, and a provider who already knows your history and your goals before you walk in. No surprise bills. No referral runaround. No waiting three weeks to discuss something that's been bothering you.

I keep my patient panel small on purpose. It's the only way the relationship piece actually works. I can't genuinely and deeply know 3,000 people. But with a small client list, I can know you.

What does that look like day to day?

When your labs come back, you're not getting a printout or a portal notification that you don’t even full understand. I'll walk you through what your CBC (Complete Blood Count) is actually showing, what your CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel) means for how your body is functioning right now, and whether anything on that page is worth your attention or whether you can let it go. In plain English. Because you deserve that. People are so used to getting results with no context that sometimes they're surprised anyone takes the time. That's a problem I genuinely want to fix.

I also know your story and the context. If you're going through a hard season at work, or you've got a family member's health situation layered on top of your own, that matters for how we talk about your care. Medicine doesn't happen in a vacuum, and I got into this field specifically because I believe in treating people, not just conditions.

You can be confident that when you reach out to me, I already know your story and your needs, and that changes everything about how we approach your care.

Why I practice this way

I have been in medicine for over 15 years and the thing that has never changed for me is this: people want to, and should, feel like they matter to their provider. Not like a chart number, not like a 20 minute slot on a schedule. Like a person.

That sounds simple, but it is genuinely hard to deliver inside a traditional practice model. So I built something different. Alpine Wellness exists because I believe primary care works better when the relationship comes first, and everything else gets built around that. It really is that simple.

Are you tired of the current runaround and ready to see if a more personalized care is right for you?
